Sun Apr 2114:29Matt Brash Nearing Rehab StintMatt BrashRP/SPMarinersFree Agent
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Matt Brash (elbow) is nearing a rehab assignment, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. Brash has been shut down since Spring Training due to elbow inflammation but has recently thrown a bullpen session and is now quickly approaching the final step in his recovery process. The 25-year-old was an elite set-up man for Seattle last season as he posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 107 punchouts across 70 innings. Brash finished the season with 24 holds, which tied him for 11th best in the major leagues. Brash is worth looking into in leagues that score holds, as he will be given ample opportunities and should also improve your team's pitching ratios.

Sun Apr 2113:46DL Hall Going On Injured List With Knee SprainDL HallRP/SPOriolesFree Agent
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander DL Hall (knee) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left knee sprain on Sunday afternoon. Hall reportedly suffered the injury while fielding a bunt against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. The 25-year-old came into the season with some hype after pitching well as a reliever in 2023. Unfortunately, the results have not been good for the former top prospect as he owns a 7.71 ERA, 2.27 WHIP and 13/10 K/BB through four starts this season. It is currently unclear how the Brewers plan to fill Hall's spot rotation, but Bryse Wilson and Robert Gasser are both in consideration.

Sun Apr 2113:38Anthony Rendon Placed On Injured ListAnthony Rendon3BAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday afternoon. The veteran infielder exited Saturday's game early after straining his hamstring while running out a single. It is unfortunate timing for the 33-year-old as he was just rediscovering his consistency at the plate. Ehire Adrianza was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake as a corresponding move, but it is more likely that Luis Rengifo and Miguel Sano see the majority of playing time at the hot corner. Rengifo is worth an add in any deeper leagues where he is available due to his multi-position eligibility and stolen base upside.

Sat Apr 2021:52Anthony Rendon Dealing With A Hamstring InjuryAnthony Rendon3BAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) exited Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds early with a hamstring injury. Rendon injured himself while running out an infield single. The 33-year-old came off the field with the trainers and was replaced by Zach Neto. Rendon found his groove at the place recently, slashing .382/.421/.833 with three RBI and five runs scored over his last eight games. The severity of his hamstring injury is unknown at this time, and he's considered day-to-day. Luis Rengifo and Miguel Sano should see an uptick in at-bats while Rendon is sidelined. Rengifo is a speculative add in all leagues after hitting .283 (15-for-53) with six stolen bases over 16 games in 2024.

Sat Apr 2021:37Chad Green Lands On The Injured ListChad GreenRPYankeesFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chad Green (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right teres major strain. Green has been sidelined since Monday due to shoulder soreness and will miss at least the next few weeks with the move to the IL. The 32-year-old owned a 2.35 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 7:2 K: BB across 7 2/3 innings in 2024. Nate Pearson was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move to replace Green in the bullpen. Pearson posted a 1.11 WHIP and a 9:3 K: BB across 6 1/3 innings in 2024. With Jordan Romano (elbow) returning from injury and Yimi Garcia as the team's top setup man, Pearson is buried in Toronto's bullpen and mainly a fantasy option in deep leagues that reward holds.

Sat Apr 2016:25Royce Lewis Begins Baseball ActivitiesRoyce LewisSSTwinsFree Agent
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis (quadriceps) has started to begin baseball activities according to the Twins head trainer Nick Paparesta. "We're looking to get him in a running progression probably the end of next week. He's still got some boxes to check, but heading in the right direction," the trainer said. No timetable has been set for the 24-year-old's return though it's still likely he won't be back until closer to the All Star Break. Kyle Farmer and Jose Miranda have been splitting time at third base in Lewis' absence. Farmer has hit for a paltry 15 wRC+ in 41 PA while Miranda has hit for a 119 wRC+ in 28 PA. Fantasy managers shouldn't rush to add either player in Lewis' absence, though Miranda shows more potential currently.

Sat Apr 2014:01Gabriel Moreno Getting A Rest SaturdayGabriel MorenoCBlue JaysFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno is on the bench for Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants and left-hander Kyle Harrison. Moreno started and went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs, and three RBI as part of a massive 17-1 blowout win over the Giants but will get a break in a day game following a night game on Friday. The young backstop is hitting .241 without a homer on the season but his impressive 14.3% BB% is roughly double his tiny 7.9% K% across his first 63 trips to the plate on the young season. Moreno has dealt with a thumb injury that cost him a couple of starts earlier in the week but he is back to health and is a batting average-first fantasy asset.

Nick SenzelCFRedsFree Agent
Washington Nationals first baseman/outfielder Joey Gallo and third baseman Nick Senzel are both out of the starting lineup on Friday against the visiting Houston Astros. Joey Meneses is playing first base and batting sixth, while Ildemaro Vargas is at third base and hitting ninth against Astros right-hander Justin Verlander, who is making his 2024 debut after dealing with a right-shoulder injury this spring. Gallo started each of the team's previous 14 games and could use a break after hitting just .170 with three home runs to begin the year. Senzel began the year on the injured list and has gone 2-for-11 with a walk and three strikeouts in his first three games of the year. Meneses and Vargas have gone hitless against Verlander in their careers in just five combined at-bats.

Fri Apr 1915:21Reds Claim Livan Soto Off Waivers From OriolesLivan SotoSSAngelsFree Agent
The Cincinnati Reds claimed infielder Livan Soto off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Reds transferred right-hander Tejay Antone (elbow) to the 60-day injured list. Soto will join his third team of the year after the Orioles designated him for assignment earlier this week. The 23-year-old Venezuelan infielder made his major-league debut in 2022 with the Los Angeles Angels and has hit .375/.414/.531 with a .946 OPS, one home run, nine RBI and a stolen base in just 22 games played the last two seasons in Anaheim. He has a .780 OPS in 32 at-bats this year for Triple-A Norfolk and will now head to Louisville to give the Reds some extra infield depth.

Fri Apr 1914:47A's Activate Brent Rooker From Injured ListBrent Rooker1B/LFRoyalsFree Agent
The Oakland A's have activated Brent Rooker (abdomen) from the injured list and have optioned 22-year-old infielder Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A Las Vegas. Despite breaking out with 30 home runs in the 2023 season, Rooker was not being used as an everyday outfielder to begin the season. He has hit just .200 on his young season but has still clubbed a pair of home runs across his first eight games of the campaign. Rooker will likely see consistent playing time upon his return but the A's outfield has gotten more crowded with his return and the promotion of the hot-hitting Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A. The team also has Seth Brown, JJ Bleday, and Lawrence Butler roaming the outfield.

Fri Apr 1908:10Everson Pereira Launches Two Home Runs On ThursdayEverson PereiraCFYankeesFree Agent
New York Yankees outfield prospect Everson Pereira launched two home runs on three hits on Thursday night, which powered Triple-A Scranton to their 12th victory of the season. Pereira is riding a .255/.359/.618 line with six total long balls this season. The 23-year-old got a small taste of the majors in 2023 and should receive another call-up later in the summer. With top prospect Jasson Dominguez injured (elbow) and Spencer Jones still in Double-A, Pereira could be the first name from the Yankee system promoted this season and is worth holding onto in dynasty and keeper leagues.

Thu Apr 1816:22Yankees Claim Taylor Trammell Off Waivers From DodgersTaylor TrammellCF/RFMarinersFree Agent
The New York Yankees claimed outfielder Taylor Trammell off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. To make room on their 40-man roster, the Yankees designated infielder Kevin Smith for assignment. The Dodgers dumped Trammell off their 40-man roster earlier this week after going hitless with three strikeouts in six plate appearances with them over five games. The former 35th overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds in 2016 out of high school just has not been able to figure out major-league pitching in 121 games, batting .165 (51-for-310) with 15 home runs, 39 RBI and four stolen bases. For now, he'll ride the pine in the Bronx while providing outfield depth behind Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton, Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham.

Thu Apr 1816:01Gabriel Moreno Back In The Lineup ThursdayGabriel MorenoCBlue JaysFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (thumb) is back behind the plate and is batting sixth in the lineup on Thursday against the San Francisco Giants and right-hander Logan Webb. Moreno injured his right thumb on a wild pitch on Monday against the Chicago Cubs and was scratched from the starting lineup on both Tuesday and Wednesday. The 24-year-old did appear as a defensive replacement late in Tuesday's extra-inning game, though. Moreno is still looking for his first home run of the year while going 11-for-46 (.239) in his first 16 games of the 2024 season. Webb isn't the greatest of matchups for those setting DFS lineups, but don't ignore the fact that Moreno is currently hitting .444 in nine career at-bats against Webb.

Logan O'HoppeCAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe and outfielder Aaron Hicks will both start on the bench for Thursday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. It's not surprise that O'Hoppe is out for the day game following a night game. Matt Thaiss is doing the catching and batting fifth, while Mickey Moniak is in right field and batting sixth against Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot. Neither Thaiss nor Moniak have faced Pepiot in their careers. O'Hoppe has been very hot to start the year, going 18-for-53 (.340) with two home runs and seven RBI in his first 16 games, while Hicks has been the opposite, going 7-for-44 (.159) with a homer and four RBI in his first 13 games with the Halos. Hicks has started just one of the team's last four games and is losing fantasy value quickly in AL-only leagues.

Thu Apr 1800:15Chad Green Managing Shoulder SorenessChad GreenRPYankeesFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Chad Green (shoulder) was unavailable during Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the division-rival New York Yankees due to shoulder soreness he felt following Monday's appearance against the Yankees. Manager John Schneider hopes Green is good to go by Friday for the start of a three-game weekend set on the road against the San Diego Padres. The 32-year-old right-hander picked up two saves and helped bridge the gap until Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson were able to rejoin Toronto's bullpen on Tuesday, and he has a strong 2.35 ERA and 1.04 WHIP while striking out seven batters and walking two over 7 2/3 innings during the 2024 regular season. With that said, Green doesn't hold a whole lot of fantasy appeal at the moment outside of leagues that weigh holds.

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King looked excellent during Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The right-hander took a tough loss after allowing one run and two hits over 7 2/3 innings of work. It was an 109-pitch game for King who struck out 10 batters over the course of the afternoon. After this outing, King holds a 2-1 record with a 3.33 ERA across four games.

Wed Apr 1717:10Julian Merryweather Moved To 60-Day Injured ListJulian MerryweatherRP/SPBlue JaysFree Agent
The Chicago Cubs moved right-hander Julian Merryweather (back, ribs) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on Wednesday to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Colton Brewer, who was recalled from Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs also recalled right-hander Hayden Wesneski from Iowa and optioned left-hander Luke Little and right-hander Daniel Palencia to Iowa. The 32-year-old Merryweather was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his ribs and in his back last week and he won't be eligible to return to the club until early June. He won't resume throwing for three weeks and may not be able to return to the Cubs' bullpen until closer to the All-Star break. Injuries continue to bother Merryweather in his MLB career.

Wed Apr 1715:12Gabriel Moreno Scratched From LineupGabriel MorenoCBlue JaysFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (thumb) was scratched from Wednesday's starting lineup against the Chicago Cubs in the series finale. Moreno suffered a right-thumb contusion on a wild pitch on Monday night and was then scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup as well before appearing later in the extra-inning win as a defensive replacement. The 24-year-old appears to be not quite comfortable enough swinging a bat to return to action for the Snakes, so Tucker Barnhart will catch again and bat eighth against Cubs left-hander Jordan Wicks. Fantasy baseball managers will want to check back on Thursday to see if Moreno is able to return to the field when the team faces the division-rival San Francisco Giants on the road.

Wed Apr 1712:32Gabriel Moreno Back Behind The Plate Against CubsGabriel MorenoCBlue JaysFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (thumb) is back behind the plate and is hitting seventh on Wednesday against left-hander Jordan Wicks and the Chicago Cubs. Moreno was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with a right-thumb contusion that he picked up on a wild pitch on Monday night. However, the 24-year-old entered the game as a defensive replacement late in Tuesday's extra-inning win and is now back in the starting lineup a day later for the series finale. One of the best young catchers in the game, especially on defense, Moreno is still searching for his first home run of the year and is hitting a modest .244 (11-for-45) with six RBI and five runs scored in his first 15 games. Moreno is hitless in his two career at-bats against Wicks.

Jake MeyersCFAstrosFree Agent
Houston Astros outfielders Jake Meyers and Chas McCormick will both start on the bench on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves. Mauricio Dubon is starting in center field and is hitting seventh, while Yordan Alvarez will play left field and bat second against Braves left-hander Max Fried. Yainer Diaz is the designated hitter and is batting fifth. Meyers, who is hitting .237 (9-for-38) with two home runs and seven RBI in the early going, continues to split time in center field with Dubon. The former 13th-round pick in 2017 out of Nebraska-Lincoln is more of a glove-first player to begin with, leaving him little fantasy upside in deeper leagues. Dubon is the more attractive offensive player and is hitting .282 (11-for-39) but doesn't have a homer yet in 2024.
